Zenab for Women in Development

Partner in Sudan

Founded in 2000, Zenab for Women in Development is dedicated to promoting and empowering the social, economic and political status of vulnerable groups, effectively helping women become self-sustaining leaders in their communities.

Together with MADRE, Zenab is ensuring equal opportunity for over 5,000 Sudanese women to build, support and educate their communities.

In 2017, Zenab was a winner of the UN Climate Solutions prize for its work training women farmers in climate-resilient agriculture. In addition to organizing Sudan’s first Women Farmers Union (since 2006), Zenab also raises awareness around female genital mutilation (FGM), maternal health, female prisoner rights, human trafficking, and promotes education for girls by constructing separate girls schools, increasing primary school girls’ attendance rates by from 20 to 100 in some cases.
